Conference Overview The 6th Annual Network of Ontario Pediatric Diabetes Programs Professional Development Day and Networking Session was held on November 17 and 18, 2006 at the Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel in Mississauga, Ontario. |

Hosted by the Northern Diabetes Health Network, this annual professional development event brings together healthcare experts in pediatric diabetes care. This is a key opportunity for them to network, share best practices and ideas as well as discuss current issues in pediatric diabetes. Over 150 healthcare professionals across Ontario and other provinces participated in this year's event.
The Professional Development Day featured the following speakers and topics:
Dr. Denis Daneman, Chair of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto and Paediatrician-in-Chief at The Hospital for Sick Children and Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Toronto, presented "Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Youth - A Global Perspective".
Dr. Geremia Bolli, Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Perugia in Italy, presented "Hypoglycemia in Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes".
Dr. Michael Vallis, Ph.D., R Psych, Psychologist at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre and Adjunct Professor, Psychology & Associate Professor, Psychiatry at the Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia,
presented "Incorporating Psychosocial Interventions into
Diabetes Self-Care: Addressing an UnderMet Need". Dr. Paul Wadwa, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes in Aurora, Colorado, presented "The Risk of Cardiovascular Disease in Youth with Diabetes".
