Diabetes Certificate Program

Making diabetes education available to other health professionals and providers is a critical component of the Northern Diabetes Health Network (NDHN). Increasing the knowledge base of other health professionals and providers in the community who may be involved in the care of people with diabetes ensures continuity and quality of diabetes care for the client from whomever they receive their healthcare.

Working for Improved Diabetes Education

A new vision for diabetes education began in 1994. With support from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Northern Diabetes Health Network funded the development of a new curriculum for diabetes educators. The 6-course Diabetes Education Certificate Program was developed by qualified diabetes educators and instructional design staff to provide high caliber learning materials and instruction to health care professionals and providers. Since then, the program modules have been revised. They reflect new trends in research and the most current standards of practice in diabetes education.

Through the program, participants are able to consolidate their skills and apply new learning in their area of practice within the health care team. We are proud of this diabetes curriculum and the instruction we offer our participants. We invite you to take part.

For detailed information of the Diabetes Education Certificate Curriculum or to enroll in the Diabetes Education Certificate Program, contact either Cambrian College in Sudbury or Confederation College in Thunder Bay.
